The last 10 days have been big in two ways. I was best man in my cousin’s wedding the same day my son was best man in his best friend’s wedding. It was so wonderful to see my cousin, who is more like a brother as we were raised together, finally getting the love and happiness he has so long deserved. I was honored to be there for him and with him. It was wonderful to be with all my siblings and cousins! It was a very full week.
The second was increasing my meditation to 20 minutes twice a day and doing morning pages journaling as well. In the morning, it takes at least an hour to complete my morning practices not counting exercise, and I found myself thinking, “I don’t have time for this! I need to be getting things done, not wasting time sitting here meditating or journalling.” But here’s the rub. It is only by getting clear and connected through meditation and journaling that I can know what is the right thing to do. If I jump immediately to taking action, to doing, I could be doing the wrong things. No matter how fast or effectively I do them, it will could be taking me in the wrong direction. For those of us in manufacturing, it would be like taking corrective action before defining the problem on the 8-D. Tuning in and getting clear is how I get connected to the inspired action, not just busyness. That makes all the difference. On top of that, I have noticed that when I do take the time for the deep meditation and morning pages, I get clear on what I am to “be” that day, what energy I want to embody. From that space I take the actions that came to me in that quiet time. Amazingly, I even get more done they days I have skipped them because I was too busy. And all the doing flows from a peaceful and flow state, even when the inspired actions don’t seem to make any sense at that time. For example, one day the first action was to clean out my physical inbox. It took some serious time as there were still some things in there from 2022! And when I got to the action further down my list, I could not have completed them without the documentation I found in my inbox. Being connected lets me sense what the moment needs and respond instead of reacting, even if it doesn’t seem to make sense. When the groom called me to his house right before the wedding, I brought my bongo drum in and started playing. He join with his and said that few minutes of rhythm is exactly what he needed to calm his nerves, and mine too.
When you think you are too busy for your meditation, prayer, and journaling, ask yourself, how useful the busyness will be if it is taking you in the wrong direction or how good your life will be if you are miserable doing it. Even if it is only 10-15 minutes, it is worth it to get connected, to be in the right state of mind. From there, take inspired action, not just action.
Have a great weekend,
