Sometime in the last few weeks I have noticed a shift in how I feel about connections with and compliments and congratulations from others. I don’t know exactly when it started, but I sure can tell the difference now. Before this shift, whenever I would get a compliment or kind word, I would be thinking about what was behind it. Why was the other person doing it. What did they want. Who put them up to it. Like there must be some other motive besides just kindness to me. In the last few weeks, that has shifted. I can receive congratulatory texts about the marathon I ran last weekend, and just accepted them. Or invitations to social events and didn’t second guess at all thinking only, “Yes, these are my friends so of course they would invite me and I would love to be part of it. I had many good connections with family and friends and even extended family members that went out of their way to spend lots time with me. In all these cases I just accepted and appreciated it with no second guessing, no longing, no questioning, and no clinging, no wishing it could be different in any way. Just simply accepting it as it is and appreciating it. It feels really good to let the love land, to let it in, to accept it. Not doing so not only makes me feel worse but is taking away from the love that others are sending as well. It is disrespecting them. It is important to let the love land from yourself as well. I have been doing that in my daily inventory for more than a year now, where I am looking for 4 things each day I did well and appreciating myself for them. Maybe that is part of what has led to this shift of letting the love land.
When someone compliments you, or congratulates you, or says how much they appreciate you, simply smile, say “Thank you,” and let the love land. Soak it up.
Have a lovely weekend letting the love land.
Sincerely,
Art
